Abstract

Converse is a collaborative work developed by the authors in 2018 based on the concept of State of Readiness, proposed by Sfoggia during her doctoral research. It is a notion inferred in the context of Capoeira Regional, and refers to the need for capoeira players to constantly remain alert and available, and how this state influences their way of moving. The fact that what may happen in the next moment cannot be foreseen, the possibility of being attacked at any moment, the lack of confidence. This leads to the necessity to stay in a continuous state of body readiness to act. In this article, we briefly describe the concept and its context, elaborate on the impact of performative research and collaboration in the creative process itself. After this initial discussion, we focus on the cognitive mechanisms involved in the many decision making processes in Converse, as seen through the prism of music and movement.
