O artigo buscou evidenciar as diferentes perspectivas pelas quais a imagética musical tem sido construída ou desconstruída no campo das Ciências Cognitivas. Para isso, realizou-se uma revisão bibliográfica com o objetivo de analisar dois contextos históricos: os primórdios da Psicologia Científica e o ressurgimento dos estudos sobre os processos cognitivos nas décadas de 1960 e 1970, repercutindo nas décadas posteriores. Pautando-se em uma perspectiva histórico-cultural, argumentou-se que os aspectos multimodais, envolvidos na constituição da imagética musical, poderiam ser analisados em conjunto com os aspectos semânticos envolvidos na experiência de imaginar musicalmente. Por fim, propôs-se definir a imagética musical como um conjunto de representações multimodais, imbricado com sentidos pessoais e significados socialmente compartilhados nas práticas musicais, ativado quando a pessoa está imaginando musicalmente.
The concept of musical imagery in Cognitive Sciences
Abstract: The article sought to highlight the different perspectives by which musical imagery has been constructed or deconstructed in the field of Cognitive Sciences. For this, a bibliographical review was carried out with the purpose of analyzing two historical contexts: the beginnings of Scientific Psychology and the resurgence of studies on cognitive processes in the 1960s and 1970s, reverberating in the later decades. Based on a historical-cultural perspective, it was argued that the multimodal aspects involved in the constitution of musical imagery could be analyzed in conjunction with the semantic aspects involved in the experience of musically imagining. Finally, it was proposed to define musical imagery as a set of multimodal representations, imbricated with personal senses and socially shared meanings in musical practices, activated when the person imagines musically.
