About the Journal

Focus and Scope

PERCEPTA - is an electronic journal launched in 2012 dedicated to fostering the production and promoting the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field of music cognition, stimulating dialogue with related areas.

PERCEPTA is committed to disseminating research results in musical cognition. It publishes original scientific articles or translations of scientific articles that reflect the current state of knowledge in the field. Its publications are directed to an interdisciplinary profile of researchers working in areas such as music theory, musicology, creative processes in music, music education, cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, music therapy, linguistics, philosophy and cultural studies in general.

Peer Review Process

PERCEPTA is as a peer-reviewed journal that accepts submissions in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, occasionally in other languages. The Editorial Board, along with occasional ad-hoc reviewers, receive and assess submitted works for publication on a continuous basis. The evaluation process follows a blind review procedure, ensured by the PKP Open Journal Systems.

Submitted articles undergo an initial assessment by the Editorial Board to ensure originality, thematic relevance, and alignment with the Journal's scope. Additionally, we conduct checks to identify any instances of plagiarism. Submissions are then categorized within relevant subfields.

Subsequently, each manuscript undergoes an evaluation by two recognized experts in their fields. They should be able to provide an objective assessment of the manuscript, recommending for acceptance, with or without suggested revisions, or rejection. In cases of divergence between reviewers, a third evaluator is consulted.

Authors receive notification of evaluation results within 30 to 60 days of submission.

To initiate the submission process, authors must register in the Journal's online system and access the "User Page" to monitor the editorial process. Submitted manuscripts must adhere to the guidelines outlined in the "Guidelines for Authors" section.

Publication Frequency

PERCEPTA receives contributions from Brazil and abroad on a continuous basis. Papers are published in an annual volume with two issues (numbers 1 and 2) available in December and June.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides unrestricted and full access to its content by adopting the Creative Commons license (CC BY), with the aim of freely disseminating scientific knowledge to the public and contributing to the global democratization of knowledge.

The journal does not charge any fees for submission or publication.

Publication Ethics Policy

The editorial team is constantly working to improve the quality and to apply best ethical practices to the entire editorial process by adopting the 10 Core Practices (2017) established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as well as the Code of conduct and best pratice guidelines for journal editors (COPE 2011).

We encourage Authors, Readers, and Reviewers to inform the Editorial team of any misconduct or ethical problems through the journal's official communication channels so that they can be investigated and the necessary measures taken by the procedures suggested by the COPE flowcharts.

Conflict of Interest Solutions

The processes related to scientific production, spanning from funding or sponsorship stages to peer review, editing, and article publication, can lead to various conflicts of interest.

PERCEPTA encourages authors to detail funding, sponsorship, and acknowledgments in supplementary documents, enabling the editorial team to assess and anticipate potential conflicts of interest.

The Editorial team is also responsible for ensuring that no conflict of interest emerges during the revision process by encouraging ad-hoc reviewers to disclose any or potential conflict.

Content Preservation Polity

The journal uses the PKP Preservation Networks (PKP PN) system to archive and preserve its content. Click here for more information.
