Abstract

The diagnosis and treatment of cancer can affect the patient's quality of life, and music can prove to be an effective therapeutic tool. This study aims to observe the effects of music on the quality of life of patients undergoing chemotherapy. Eighteen patients diagnosed with breast cancer, virgins of previous chemotherapy treatment, separated into two groups were included in the study, where A was submitted to the intervention with music and group B was observational. An EORTC QLQ-C30 quality of life questionnaire and the performance scale were applied. There was a reduction in physical performance in the control group, while in the treated group, the physical factor remained the same as at the beginning of treatment. Study results suggested that the sample number be larger and that patients' physical functioning during treatment is evaluated to have even more noticeable results on the benefits of music.
